Have you ever tried to send a large file (more than 10MB) using email and realize that you can't really do so? Your email client will probably time out.

Have you ever tried to send a large file (more than 10MB) using email and realize that you can't really do so? Your email client will probably time out. Obviously, you can't send huge files using the default method. You have, however, a few other options available.

Option 1: Use an Instant Messenger.

You can use an instant messenger to send your large file over. The only drawback is that you have to make sure both of you have the same instant messenger installed. If not, you may find yourself having to install additional software. If you are trying to send a file at your work place, you may not have the permission to do so. So what's next?

Option 2: Use peer to peer sharing software.

This option requires you to be more tech savvy than you really need. Again, there is third party software that needs to be installed. But very few people choose to use this option because your files tend to be on the public network - i.e. anyone searching for similar files may be able to download the content.

Option 3: File sharing using web browsers.

File transfers over the Internet is not a new technology. Many years ago, you can readily share files with your friends using Instant messengers. But now, the technology has advanced a step forward. You can share and transfer files without the aid of any additional software. All you need is a high speed Internet connection and a web browser. One example is PipeBytes, a free and new file transfer website.

The file transfer takes place on the website itself. Of course, both parties need to be logged on to the website at the same time. You can see the progress of the file transfer on the web browser. In the event that whoever you are sending the file to is not online, you can still initiate a file transfer. The website will provide a code, and your friend will be able to use the secret code to pick up the file.

There is no limit to the file size that you are going to send. Unlike other file transfer websites, Pipebytes don't actually store your files on the server. All it does is to allow 2 parties to conduct a file transfer. That means if you are going to transfer a file, you need to be connected to the Internet. Otherwise, the other party can't pick up the file. As you can see, the file transfer process is very similar to that of using an Instant messenger. But you can now transfer files without having to install any software or log in to any messengers.

This service is free. There is no catch, except that the service is supported by Ads. During the transfer, you may see YouTube videos of online ads being displayed on the website. If they don't interest you, just ignore the ads.
